KGB Archiver can turn your large files into something much smaller by compressing them into KGB’s own compression format, with further support for creating ZIP files with similar compression ratios.
KGB offers you the ability to choose which compression rate you’d like to use for making files smaller; you can choose from between minimum compression rate to a maximum compression rate and turn a digital photo which weighs in at 4. KGB Archiver certainly isn’t the fastest compressor out there, but it is by far one of the most effective at reduce filesizes. There are some pitfalls of using this archiver; for one, browsing archives can take a little bit longer depending on the size.
This application is also known for using a high amount of system resources and as such, you should only use it when you really must shrink the size of files. As an added bonus of extremely high compression rates, KGB Archiver also supports archive encryption. You are able to set any password you’d like on the archives it creates, but don’t forget that there are virtually no password crackers out there for KGB archivers, so make sure you keep your passwords in a very safe place and consider using a password manager.

This app opens with a compact, slightly cluttered interface with the basic components: a field for listing files to compress or expand, a field for specifying the location of the output file, the level of compression, options for passwords, and so forth.
We initially liked that it offered nine levels of compression, from Minimal to Maximum, but our tests with the midrange Normal and Good settings weren’t satisfying. For instance, we compressed a Not what we were hoping for at all. When we want a compressed file, we want the output to end up smaller than the original file. That’s not at all what we got with this free app with many of its compression options. Using compression rates above Good led to desired results, but that leaves several options next to useless.
